IN Architecture -- an insight

Q1 Name functional entities in INAP architecture ?

A1 INAP has following functional entities:
  • Call Control Function (CCF)
  • Service Switching Function (SSF)
  • Service Control Function (SCF)
  • Service Resource Function (SRF)
Q2 What functional entities are implemented on which physical entities?
A2 The functional entities mentioned above can be implemented in one or more network elements, called physical entities.
  • Service Control Point (SCP) can implement SCF
  • Service Switching Point (SSP) can implement CCF and SSF
  • Intelligent Peripheral (IP) can implement SRF
Q3 In which entity the interaction between ISUP and INAP take place?
A3 The interaction between ISUP and INAP takes place in the CCF and SSF.

Q4 What is the basic principle behind providing Intelligent Services using ISUP controlled basic architecture?
A4 The following main subjects have to be considered in this area:
  • detection point processing in the CCF
  • receipt of INAP operations in the SSF.
Q5 What is a detection Point?
A5 The Detection Points (DPs) indicate Points in Calls (PICs) at which transfer of control can occur. If a DP is recognized an operation from the SSF to the SCF will be sent. Thus the communication towards the SCP is performed.
The provision of Detection Points (DPs) is required in the ISUP basic call handling in order to access IN functionality and to allow IN service logic influence the processing of IN calls.

Interview Questions on Telecom

This blog would try to capture different questions and answers which make us understand the concepts of telecom.

In beginning, I would post topics related to wireless technologies. And I would like if people like you give comments and make this content more rich and meaningful as we go ahead.

Thanks,
Sachin Gupta
